Search Learning Objects

1. You can search or browse the repositories for learning objects. For searching, 

  • Enclose phrases with quotation marks for exact matches.
  • Use OR (uppercase) to search for either terms.

2. You can specify more search criteria, such as Learning Resource Type in Advanced Search.

Retrieve Learning Objects

There are multiple ways to retrieve learning objects for use in course offerings:

  • Copying the learning object to Content.
  • Creating a link from LOR.
  • Downloading the learning object from LOR to your desktop.

Retrieving learning objects from Contents:

1. Click the Add Existing button on the Content page of your course site. Then, choose LOR.

2. Search or Browse the repositories for learning objects.

3. On the results page, select the learning object that you want to use for your course. Then, click Next.

4. Select an option below on how you want to add the learning object:

  • Dynamic Link to Newest Version - To create a link that always points to the newest version of the learning object.
  • Locked Link to This Version - To create a link that always points to the specified version of the learning object.
  • Copy as Content - To create a copy of the learning object in Content (the content will not be updated when changes are made).

NOTE: If the original object is deleted, the dynamic and locked link will not be accessible.

5. Click Create Topic on the next page to add the object to your selected module.


Retrieving learning objects from LOR directly:

1. Click Course Design from the menu, then select LOR in your course site.

2. Search or Browse the repositories for learning objects.

3. Click Retrieve.

4. Select an option below on how you want to add the learning object:

  • Dynamic Link to Newest Version - To create a link that always points to the newest version of the learning object.
  • Locked Link to This Version - To create a link that always points to the specified version of the learning object.
  • Copy as Content - To create a copy of the learning object in Content (the content will not be updated when changes are made).
  • Copy as Course Files - Create a copy of the files from this learning object in Manage Files. This does not retain the structure of the object.
  • Download - Download the learning object as a packaged zip file.

NOTE: If the original object is deleted, the dynamic and locked link will not be accessible.

5. Click Create Topic on the next page to add the object to your selected module.

Copyrights and Permissions

You need to consider copyright before you reuse a learning object. Click Show Details to check if there are any restrictions on use.
