IRR is a service provided by the Library. This guide provides instructions on how to deposit your data and publications with the university's repository.

IRR Terms of Deposit

The purpose of the Singapore Institute of Technology ("SIT") Institutional Research Repository ("IRR") is to collect, describe, store, preserve and provide access to the outputs of SIT’s research activities. All items in IRR can be used for non-commercial purposes, including research, education and teaching.

By depositing items into the SIT IRR, you accept and agree to be bound by the following Terms of Deposit. The following Terms of Deposit are subject to changes from time to time, without advance notice.

 

1. Definitions

1.1. Content refers to the items contained in the SIT IRR, including articles, monographs, datasets, thesis, images, media, software, and other works protected by copyright and laws.

1.2. Depositor is the person depositing an item into the IRR.

1.3. Metadata refers to information or facts for the purpose of attribution, description, management, verification and discovery of an item deposited into the SIT IRR.

1.4. Site refers to the SIT IRR online portal.

 

2. Depositing Items into the IRR

2.1. Authority to Deposit

You warrant that the item deposited is your original work, or you are authorised by the author(s) of the item to deposit the item. You warrant that you have the right to grant the rights stated in 2.5 to SIT.

2.2. Deposited Content

You remain responsible for the accuracy and authenticity of the item(s) deposited for as long as the item is stored in the SIT IRR. You are responsible for the licence selected when depositing an item in IRR. SIT will neither be liable for the contents of your item(s) deposited, nor any embargo or access rights granted by you.

2.3. Metadata

You are responsible to provide adequate Metadata description for the item(s) deposited and agree that the Metadata will be made publicly available, unless the Metadata is marked as embargoed by you.

2.4. Funding

Grant information are encouraged to be included into the publication record in IRR, where applicable.

2.5. Rights Granted to SIT

You grant SIT the non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual and royalty-free right to store, use, reproduce and communicate your item(s) deposited or Metadata for the purposes of research, education and teaching.

2.6. Warranties of Depositor

You warrant that the item(s) deposited does not, to the best of your knowledge, infringe any of the followings:

  • copyrights, intellectual property rights of any person;
  • privacy, confidentiality or other rights of any person, e.g. personal data; and
  • the terms of any contracts/agreements, e.g. publisher agreement, research collaboration agreement, funding agreement, sponsorship agreement.

2.7. Third Party Copyrighted Materials

If there is any jointly owned or third party copyrighted materials contained in the item(s) deposited, you warrant that permission has been obtained for the materials to be deposited in the SIT IRR.

2.8. Withdrawal

SIT may withdraw the item from IRR without notice, upon one of the following circumstances occuring:

  • Potential copyright violation or plagiarism; or
  • Legal requirements; or
  • National security; or
  • Falsified research; or
  • Confidentiality concerns.

Withdrawn items will be removed from public view, but not deleted from the repository.

2.9. Removal

The removal of any item in the IRR is at the discretion of SIT in consultation with the Associate/Assistant Provost (Applied Research).

 

3. Figshare Terms of Use

As the SIT IRR is hosted on Figshare's platform, you are also required to comply with the Figshare Terms of Use at: https://figshare.com/terms. In particular, you SHALL NOT

  1. Make available, distribute, sell, rent, lease, license, frame, commercialise or use for the benefit of any other person (including as part of a service bureau arrangement) any part of Figshare, or use any part of Figshare to develop, or otherwise in connection with, a product or service which competes with any of the products and/or services Figshare offers; or
  2. Use any automated means, including robots, scripts, or spiders to access, monitor, crawl, scrape or mine any part of Figshare except those expressly authorized by Figshare in advance in writing.

 

4. Disclaimer of Warranty

THE SIT IRR SITE IS PROVIDED "AS IS." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, SIT DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND (EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR OTHERWISE) REGARDING THE SITE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OWNERSHIP, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY ABOUT THE ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, COMPLETENESS, TIMELINESS, SUFFICIENCY, OR QUALITY OF THE SITE. SIT DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE OR ITS SERVER ARE FREE OF COMPUTER VIRUSES.

 

5. Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL SIT BE LIABLE TO YOU, IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, EXEMPLARY, OR OTHER DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING OUT OF, OR RELATING TO THE SITE OR THE CONTENT, OR YOUR DEPOSITION OF ITEM(S) TO THE SITE.

 

6. Governing Law

These Terms of Deposit are governed by the laws of Singapore.
